The View

The Sky 02-07

The view of downtown Los Angeles can actually be pretty striking… here are some pictures I took in the morning on my way to work the other day.
There’s this phenomenon called the “marine layer” which was totally new to us when we moved out here. It’s basically a covering of thick fog that rolls in off the ocean in the morning and stays in the LA basin (so basically all of LA proper, but the hills stop it from going into the Valley) until it’s burned off by the sun. The first time we tried to go to the beach we literally couldn’t see the beach because the fog was so thick!
The picture above shows downtown, with the low levels of gray as the marine layer, above that a huge thundercloud (don’t worry, it didn’t actually rain, the town would have shut down!) and then the pretty whispy clouds and sun above it.
The picture below is the view as I was coming up the hill from the Valley (before downtown) where you can really see the layers.
It just thought it was so beautiful that I had to share :)
