Movie Reviews – Iron Man and Prince Caspian

This weekend it was SO hot in LA that the only logical thing to do was to go see long movies in nice air-conditioned theaters.

Saturday night we went to see Iron Man, an adaptation of a Marvel comic book character. I was not familiar with this comic series, but I have to say that the movie was way better than we had expected for a comic book. It was at times intense, funny, full of great effects and actually had a little heart. Overall, very enjoyable!

Sunday afternoon we went to see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, the second movie based on the C.S. Lewis book series. I love these books, and I was really excited about Narnia even though I had heard some mixed reviews. Some of the reviews were correct that this movie was older, a little darker, and a little long for younger children. I had heard that the battle scenes were a little too long or overdone, but I didn’t really think so. Overall I thought it was really great, but it is helpful if you remember what the whole book and series is about. I think that Lucy, the youngest girl, is really the main character and the purpose of the movie is to remind us about having faith through lots of obstacles.

Overall, it was a lovely weekend, and we are looking forward to the projected cool down this week. There are several more movies coming out soon (like Indiana Jones!) so I expect we will be spending a lot of time in the movie theater this summer. :-D
