Weekend
Jun 23rd 2008VictoriaNews and Updates
This weekend continued in the hot trend for Southern California, but it is supposed to cool off starting today (let’s hope!). Saturday Steven, Heather and I went to check out the new Americana at Brand in downtown Glendale. It has been under construction since we moved here, and its opening is a pretty big deal. The Americana is basically an open air mall thing (like the Grove in LA) with up-scale shops, with condos above. I hadn’t realized it was quite so outdoors when I suggested that we visit on a day where it was over 100 degrees in Glendale. It was lovely and all, but then we decided it would be much better to sit in AC so we saw the movie Get Smart.
Movie Review: Get Smart
We had wanted to see Get Smart for a couple of reasons – it looks funny, we like Steve Carell and I like Anne Hathaway, and the finale scene was filmed at the concert hall when I still worked there. Even though none of us had seen the original series, we all thought it was really funny and very enjoyable. Especially because it was time inside in some serious air conditioning.
I had a last-minute gig yesterday playing Principal oboe/english horn with the Capistrano Valley Symphony. It was under a tent in the courtyard of the Mission in San Juan Capistrano (you know, the one where the swallows go…). It was really hot, but was a lovely place to play. The group was made up of some good players, but the intonation was sometimes an issue (again, because it was hot and outdoors). I got to meet some new people, and this was my first job in Orange County.
Today and tomorrow will be focused on teaching lessons and cleaning up the house in preparation for Steven’s parents, who come to visit for 2 weeks tomorrow night!
