Kids, eggs, and such

Last Monday I did a couple presentations to band students at Village Christian School at the request of my friend Brian. I talked about the oboe and english horn, and life as a professional musician. I also brought a plastic reed and had some kids (usually the percussionists, for entertainment value) play the oboe! Brian had the 2 middle school and 1 high school classes write thank you letters, here are some of my favorites:

“A melodious thanks!…. Hopefully your musical endeavords will inspire others to pick up an instrument, practice thourougly, and worship the Lord through their playing.”

“Good playing, keep it up”

“Thank you very much for your presentation in class the other day. It was quite the sight (and sound) to have a drummer play the oboe.”

“Your presentation was really something. Thank you for your time, you seemed to know what you were talking about.”

“Thank you for taking the time to come and talk to our class. The oboe looks like a hard instrument, so I’ll stick with the tuba.”

“I learned alot about the oboe that I didn’t know before. You also played really well; you should be a professional. :)

“After you came you inspired me to practice more and to even try to learn how to play the oboe…. I hope you get rich off playing it.”

“Thank you Mrs. Sabonjohn. I learned stuff.”

“When I grow up I want to be just like you. So again thank you very much for letting me play the oboe.”

Kids can be so funny. :)

As an aside, some of you may know that for years and years I ate eggs every single morning. About 6 months ago, all of a sudden, eggs grossed me out. So I tried all sorts of other things for breakfast but nothing was ever perfect. Last week I woke up and discovered that eggs no longer gross me out. Weird.
