Visit to Cambria, Day one and two

Thursday, July 3 we drove to Cambria, CA, which is about 100 miles north of Santa Barbara. This was the first time that we took Apollo with us on a trip out of town, and we were lucky to find a really nice hotel right on the beach that accepted dogs. It was a learning experience for all of us, but we all had a fantastic trip overall.

Unfortunately, there are fires in the Santa Barbara area (Goleta) that are very bad, and we actually drove right past them. This is the gloomy cloud of despair that hung over the city. (Ok, so maybe that’s a little too poetic, but it was seriously creepy!)

Friday, July 4 we woke up and went for a nice walk on the beach. Too bad it was really windy and chilly!

And what was on that rocky beach? Seals!!!

Mom and Dad Sabonjohn on the rocks – ironically, this was the only spot in town that had cell phone signal!

Remember how I said it was cold? Well, it proved to be too much for the puppy!

After our walk on the beach, we went into the very cute town of Cambria for lunch and shopping.

That night, we joined the town on the beach to watch the fireworks show. We watched the beautiful sundown on the beach -

It was so cold that Apollo was still shivering, even though he was wearing a sweater and was wrapped in a quilt!

The town’s fireworks couldn’t compare to the Hollywood Bowl, so we walked back before they were done to get in the heat :)
