Gustavo Dudamel extravaganza at the Hollywood Bowl

Saturday we attended the ¡Bienvenido Gustavo! concert at the Hollywood Bowl, which was the hottest (free) ticket in town. I had tried to get tickets when they became available a couple of months ago, but they were sold out almost instantly. Luckily, our friend Darryl had some extra from his allotment to his youth orchestra, and we were thrilled to be able to go after all.

The day began at 4:00 pm, with a couple of groups doing jazz, a gospel choir, local student groups and the first performance of the LA Phil’s new youth orchestra YOLA. Dudamel conducted the kids, and then the big band plus chorus for Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. To say that it was a once in a lifetime event would be an understatement, and the five hours we were there were totally worth it. :)
