Easter 2010

Here is what has been going on in reverse chronological order:

We were very grateful to be invited over for Easter dinner by the Jamisons, a family from church. My contribution was a lemon layer cake with lemon curd in between the layers. It turned out great!

In addition to the fresh fruit, the cake is topped with homemade candied lemon slices.

We had an Easter earthquake today while we were at the Jamisons’ house – it was a 7.2 in Mexico that felt like 30 seconds of swaying. CLICK HERE for an article and video about today’s quake, which didn’t cause much damage in California.

Steven decided to take on a home project yesterday of putting together a drip line system so we could automatically water plants on our porch. Thanks honey!

Last weekend we took the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train down to San Diego, which was very relaxing and civilized. It was a beautiful weekend to explore the city and area with a lot of walking and public transportation.

Our hotel room was right on the water, with a nice view.

The view from our hotel room was great - we could see the cruise ships, Maritime museum, and military aircraft carriers on the bay.

The lovely Hotel Del on cute Coronado Island, across the bay from San Diego was our first stop.

The next day we spent at the San Diego Zoo, which I have always wanted to visit. Everywhere you look there were little duckling groups, which were so cute.

Precious ducklings!

One of the highlights was seeing two monkeys take turns picking bugs off each other :)

I first saw these flowers at the LA Zoo which I think are so pretty and different, especially with the bright colors.

I love how they glow in the sunlight.

This was the first time I had ever seen them in yellow!

Overall, we had a lovely time.

Just before we left for San Diego I was very excited to take part in a new concert by The Orchestra Unleashed called Mirrors of the Soul. If you click “Program” in the upper right you will see my picture and bio listed as a soloist, as I was honored to play three unaccompanied solos on English horn from Jenni Brandon’s In the City at Night. In addition, the concert featured several works by modern composers along with poetry and narratives and original projected art. Both nights were a great experience and so much fun.
